Week 5 Part 1 Target Market

Chili’s vs. Teri Cafe

I noticed a few differences in each company’s target market. Chili’s has locations all over the United States and Teri Cafe is local with two locations in Oceanside, CA.  Their menus are quite different in that Chili’s offers a wide variety of foods and Teri Cafe is a teriyaki and noodle restaurant. Teri Cafe makes their own different types of noodles and sells them to different companies as well as serves them in their dishes. Teri Cafe has a more homestyle feel whereas Chili’s has a more chain restaurant feel. They both offer specials, but Chili’s offers a rewards program as well. 

Obvious differences between their websites were the graphics. The first thing you see when you visit the Chili’s site is the $22 special and the first thing you see when you visit the Teri Cafe site is a fast running video of their establishment. Chili’s has vibrant photos of their dishes and Teri Cafe has light photos of some of their dishes as you scroll through the site. Teri Cafe uses Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and there are links at the top and bottom of the website. Chili’s has links to get their app on your phone to place orders, nutritional information, employment information, franchise information, Facebook and Twitter at the bottom of their site. They also have information on their participation with St. Jude. They both offer specials on their site, but Teri Cafe has a specials link that you can click on to see their daily specials. 

The conclusion I draw is that someone visiting the Chili’s site or the restaurant wants a place that offers a wide variety of food that has many locations to choose from.  Someone visiting Teri Cafe site or restaurant has a more specific food desire and wants something close by in the Oceanside area. Chili’s may be a bit larger, but they both provide booths, tables and a bar to sit at. So depending on your location and the food you are craving is what would determine which restaurant you would choose.
